Frequently asked questions
Why do students need to have their cameras on?
Our classes are live and interactive, and having cameras on helps our teachers see if students are engaged, interested and understanding the material. This visual feedback is essential for effective teaching and learning.
Why don’t you offer webinar-style classes?
Our small group classes allow for personalised attention and interactive learning, unlike webinars. We provide immediate feedback on students' work during class and offer detailed comments on weekly assignments. This individualised approach ensures that students receive the support they need to succeed, which wouldn't be possible in a webinar format.
How are your classes tailored to different student needs?
Our pricing varies depending on [what factors affect your price]. We offer a variety of options to fit your needs and budget. Please visit our [pricing page/contact us] for more information.
Why don’t you open GCSE lessons to younger students?
The National Curriculum is designed to meet the developmental stages of specific age groups. Even highly capable younger students may find GCSE and A-level topics inappropriate for their maturity level. Mixing significantly different ages in one class is discouraging for older students, especially those with SEN, and we can see no reasons to do this that aren’t financial. That’s not what we are about. We believe in providing a comfortable learning environment tailored to each student's age and needs. We believe wholeheartedly in challenging every student, but we won’t compromise the participation or enjoyment of one student to facilitate the progress of another. We want our students to feel safe, supported and confident, and all our decisions are based on making this happen.
Education is a journey, not a race. We want our students to enjoy that journey and appreciate the scenery along the way.
Can I watch a recording of a class?
No. Our classes are live and interactive, and they involve direct student participation. To safeguard our students and their families, we do not release any recordings where students can be seen or heard.
What do fees include?
We offer exceptional value by providing:
Live, interactive lessons from a qualified, subject specialist
Outstanding teaching from experienced teachers and examiners with a proven track record of success
Teachers who have also experienced the challenges of Home Education first-hand
Bespoke teaching resources differentiated by ability and designed to stretch and challenge all students
All notes and resources excluding the textbook
Weekly independent learning assignments, marked in line with Assessment Objectives and returned with targets for improvement
Exam Preparation with detailed explanation and guidance on answer structure and content to meet the AOs
Online communication throughout
Regular feedback
Revision materials including notes, knowledge organisers and flashcards on each unit
A marked mock paper in the final term
Relar feedback
Support for parents with access arrangements
Personalised student references
NEA supervision, authentication, marking and moderation
Ok. But, please would you offer some webinars?
It's kind of you to keep asking but, no. We focus on live, interactive, personalised learning which involves two-way communication and regular targeted, individual feedback. We offer pre-recorded content as part of some of our courses, but we believe in giving parents and carers value for money, particularly in times of challenge such as these. We are simply not comfortable charging for large, webinar-style sessions when there are so many excellent resources widely available to all - for free.
How does Nexus Educate ensure students with SEND are able to access exams?
Nexus Educate adheres to the Equality Act 2010, which mandates making reasonable adjustments for individual students to ensure they are not at a disadvantage during exams. External examining bodies, which set the exams and coursework (NEAs), are also required to make these adjustments, such as providing extra time, alternative formats for exam papers, or assistive technology. While parents and carers must apply for these adjustments, Nexus Educate teachers can provide necessary evidence of a student's typical working methods to support the application process. However, in cases where the regulator deems certain parts of a qualification as non-adjustable to maintain its integrity, Nexus Educate must comply and cannot make those specific adjustments.

How does Nexus Educate support parents and carers with SEND?
Nexus Educate is committed to supporting parents and carers of students with SEND by making reasonable adjustments to ensure inclusivity. We encourage parents and carers to provide relevant information about their needs before students begin courses or classes. This enables us to tailor our support effectively. It is crucial that this information is accurate and complete to allow us to make the necessary accommodations. Should any significant information be withheld or needs change after the course starts, it may affect our ability to continue the contract. For more details on our inclusive practices, please refer to our Equal Opportunities and Enrolment Policies.
How can a student who is unable to have their camera on in classes take an NEA course with Nexus Educate?
At Nexus Educate, we are dedicated to supporting all students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). To ensure the integrity of our educational process and comply with examination regulations, it is essential that we communicate directly with students throughout the production of their non-examined assessments (NEAs). This communication allows us to authenticate their work and confirm that it is their own.
It is crucial for us to interact with each student to verify their independent work. We understand the unique challenges that students with SEND may face and are committed to making reasonable adjustments to facilitate this communication. This requirement is not intended to discriminate but to uphold academic standards and regulatory obligations. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this process to ensure fairness for all students.
